I have spent over 30 years in rooms where the stakes were high, and every decision mattered.
Emergency Medicine. Healthcare technology. Industry executive leadership at Oracle and Cerner. I was the person in the room when it counted - and I watched, repeatedly, what happened to the people who should have been there too.
Then it happened to me.
I didn’t find out I was being managed out of my leadership. I didn’t find out in a performance review. A trusted colleague found my job posted online and sent it to me when I was wheels-up at 5 AM, taking off on PTO. No conversation. No warning. No room.
That moment didn’t break me. It clarified everything.
I had been performing in a system that was built to value something else entirely - and I had trusted the wrong people to tell me the truth about where I stood.
My grandmother used to tell me, “Nothing happens to you. It’s all happening for you.” So I made a decision.
